The Women's Pairs event at the England Open, held at Seal Bay Resort and proudly sponsored by Seal Bay Resort and One80 Darts, delivered a thrilling conclusion as Gemma Hayter and Steph Clarke were crowned champions after a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Rhian O'Sullivan and Leanne Topper in the final.
The eventual champions enjoyed an impressive run through the competition, dropping just two legs on their way to the semi-finals. Hayter and Clarke opened with comfortable 3-0 victories over Leah-May Dalloway and Kelly Parkes, Hazel Hoare and Nic Curzon, and then Macie Woodrow and Trina Perry to book their place in the quarter-finals.
Their challenge intensified in the latter stages. A commanding 3-0 quarter-final win over Chloe Judd and Lilly Wheeler was followed by a tense semi-final encounter against Eve Watson and Lorraine Hyde. In one of the matches of the tournament, Hayter and Clarke edged through 3-2 to secure their place in the final.
On the opposite side of the draw, Rhian O'Sullivan and Leanne Topper produced a superb campaign of their own. After opening with a 3-0 win over Claire Branscombe and Chelsea Harrington, they continued their march through the field with victories over Anne Grisedale and Gail Williams (3-0), Jane Monaghan and Tracy North (3-1), Joanne Oldershaw and Sara Walton (3-1), before defeating Macy Gibbons and Lola Wheeler 3-0 in the semi-finals.
The championship match lived up to expectations. Both pairs traded legs throughout a closely contested encounter, with neither side able to establish a decisive advantage. With the score locked at 2-2, Hayter and Clarke found the crucial leg when it mattered most, sealing a dramatic 3-2 victory and lifting the England Open Women's Pairs title.
