The England Selsey Open Men's Championship concluded in spectacular fashion at Seal Bay Resort, with Stuart Dutton producing a series of composed performances to lift one of the weekend's most prestigious titles. Sponsored by Seal Bay Resort and One80 Darts, the event attracted a strong field of players from across the country and delivered a host of high-quality matches throughout the knockout stages.
Dutton's route to the title was far from straightforward. After receiving a walkover against Jim Withers in the Last 16, he was immediately tested by James Hubbard in the quarter-finals. In a contest of exceptional quality, Hubbard averaged a remarkable 90.42, but Dutton held his nerve to edge a thrilling 4-3 victory with an 85.94 average of his own.
The semi-finals saw Dutton face the experienced Paul Redfern, who had enjoyed an impressive run through the draw. Redfern had produced one of the performances of the tournament in his quarter-final victory over Joshua Burksfield, averaging 90.05 in a deciding-leg success. However, Dutton once again found the answers when it mattered most, overcoming Redfern 4-2 to secure his place in the final.
The other half of the draw was dominated by Robbie Martin, who produced some outstanding darts throughout the day. Martin averaged 91.39 in a Last 16 victory over Joe Croft before backing it up with a 91.46 average against Ben Harper in the quarter-finals. He continued his impressive form in the semi-finals, defeating Daryl Hunt 4-1 with another superb 91.57 average to book his place in the championship match.
With both players arriving in excellent form, the final promised a high-quality encounter and it did not disappoint. Martin battled hard throughout and averaged an impressive 85.47, but Dutton produced a measured and clinical display, averaging 87.59 as he gradually established control of the contest. Despite several strong spells from Martin, Dutton remained composed in the crucial moments and closed out a deserved 5-3 victory to become England Selsey Open Champion.
