The very first World Cup was played at Wembley in 1977 and then it was also played in Scotland in 1983. World Cup XVIII in Blackpool will give people the first opportunity to see this prestigious event on home soil in over 30 years.

England are the only country that has won every available gold medal in a World Cup, at World Cup X in Switzerland 1995. World Cup XVI held in the Netherlands last October saw the largest number of countries represented in a single darts event. We hope that World Cup XVIII in Blackpool will surpass this as players from across the darting world take on one of the biggest challenge’s on the dart board for any country to become Champions of the World

Press Release from Winmau Dart Board Company:-

Winmau to back England Darts Organisation for World Cup 2011

Winmau are delighted to offer their full support to the England Darts Organisation (EDO) for the World Cup of darts in 2011. This premiere event takes place in Blackpool, and will feature the best players from over 40 countries in the World Darts Federation system.

Although seemingly a long way off, the EDO have proposed so many outstanding new ideas to capture the imagination of the World’s dart players that Winmau are proud to be involved with such a forward thinking Organisation.

Winmau’s Sales and Marketing Director, Ian Flack, said “The EDO have some great ideas to promote the event and to involve the darts fans from across the globe. They have a great empathy for dart supporters and we’ll do all we can to help make this an event to be remembered”.

Winmau are already supporters of the EDO, who use the Winmau Blade III dartboard at all of their events. This partnership is growing in strength and looks set to continue in the same vein over the coming years.

Our congratulations go to the EDO for successfully securing the 2011 World Cup for the nation that gave birth to the sport of darts, and we have no doubt that it will be one of the best events of that year!
