ENGLAND ANNOUNCE JOINT VENTURE FOR NEW TOURNAMENT
The
England Darts Organisation (EDO) is pleased to announce the introduction of
a brand new series of events in 2012.
The
events are being run in conjunction with Grosvenor Casinos and will be known
as the England Grosvenor Grand Prix and there will be a total prize fund in
excess of £30,000.
EDO
Tournament Director, Jean Thomas initiated a pilot event with Grosvenor
Casinos at their Huddersfield casino earlier this year under the guise of
the Yorkshire Classic which was an outstanding success.
Jean
said “I’m pleased that 2012 will see a Grand Prix made up of eight events in
Grosvenor Casinos around England. The eight events will see separate Mens
and Ladies singles competitions with a top prize of £1,000 and £500
respectfully and the Grand Prix will culminate and a Grand Final in the
Midlands on the weekend of 14/15 July 2012.”
Negotiations are currently being held with specific casinos around England,
there will be a total of £4,000 prize money at each of the eight events. A
list of the eight casinos will be published on the England web site in the
New Year.
EDO
Chairman, Tommy Thompson said “We are very excited with this collaboration
with Grosvenor Casinos, the initial event run in Huddersfield was a massive
success despite being organised in a relatively short time.”
“We
are hopeful that the England Counties will embrace this event and players
will also be encouraged to participate at several events in the hope of
qualification for the Grand Finals.”
The
England Grosvenor Grand Prix will also be incorporated into the EDO
Ranking.
The
EDO are delighted to be working with Grosvenor Casinos and see the Grand
Prix as a massive boost for the EDO and its members.

WORLD CUP FOR ENGLAND
The World
Cup in Ireland proved to be a great event for the players of England as for the
first time in World Cup history England became the first Country to win all
three overall titles.
International Teams Director Peter Melton, described the finals day as "the
greatest day in English darting history".
The ladies
and mens titles were already secured before the finals day started but a win in
both the Girls Singles and Youth Mixed Pairs ensured that history was made.
Finals day
also saw England take all the respective Gold medals in the senior events, this
has only ever been achieved once before when England won all the events in 1995

LADIES & MENS ARE WORLD CUP CHAMPIONS
After the first three days
of the World Cup all the floor matches have been completed and we are delighted
to confirm that both the England Ladies and Mens teams have already collected
enough points to guarantee them their respective overall titles.
And things may still get
even better as our Youth team have a two point lead over Germany as they attempt
to clinch their title. If they can win the Youth title it would be the first
time that any Country has ever won all the overall titles. They are in two of
the three finals on Saturday.
In fact of the eight
finals to be played on Saturday, England will be competing in seven of them and
the Mens title that Tony O'Shea won in 2009 will definitely be returning to
England as the two finalists are Martin Adams and Scott Waites.
There was almost another
special occasion in the men's team semi final Scott Waites missed double twelve
for a nine dart leg.
The WDF World Cup gets underway on Wednesday 21st September in Castlebar,
Republic of Ireland.
We will bring you
updates direct from the venue.
